This is a full time role offering a competitive salary of £45,000 per annum.

About you

The Finance Manager Role:

You will be accountable for the leadership, planning, and organisation of the Brockenhurst College finance function and will lead on improvements to service delivery processes, controls, systems and procedures.

You will provide strategic business analysis and accountancy, deliver effective key customer service support, and be responsive to performance issues.

As our Finance Manager you will:

- Demonstrate exemplary personal organisation, planning and task management capabilities

- Manage, coach and set high expectations for a small established finance team

- Provide proactive business partnering support for key budget holders

- Plan, communicate and continuously improve the finance function for the college

- Monitor ESFA funding and ensure receipts are in line with funding returns and contract allocations

- Prepare the annual statutory accounts for the college in accordance with ESFA requirements and accounting standards

- Be the main point of contact with external and internal auditors and ensure evidence is fully collated and promptly provided.

- Prepare and submit the quarterly VAT returns and advise on VAT matters for the college

- Lead and manage all areas of finance and the accurate and timely submission of statutory tax and other returns

- Maintain up-to-date expert knowledge of all relevant legislative and statutory guidance

- Analyse and specify technology systems development needs within areas of responsibility

- Prepare monthly management accounts for Wessex Educational Shared Services Limited

- Be an active member of the Finance and Resources Management team and other similar groups

- Provide ad-hoc financial advice to budget holders and liaise closely with other teams such as MI and Funding, HR and Payroll. 

The ideal Finance Manager will need:

- To be a qualified Accountant (e.g ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ACA) with at least five years’ financial management experience in service organisations

- An understanding of government funding methodology for further education colleges

- Experience of implementing controls and audit compliance and able to produce annual statutory accounts

- Effective management in budgeting, planning, resourcing and development of business cases

- Ability to maximise finance technology applications to improve service effectiveness

- Personal effectiveness, management of self and tasks, prioritising and getting the job done

- To be a credible, authoritative manager of people and teams

- Ability to develop operational processes and procedures that deliver efficient and effective services

- Ability to communicator with colleagues at all organisational levels
