About Us

Wessex Education Shared Services (WESS) is a pioneering shared service company operating in a Further Education environment. We provide a wide range of services to our two Member colleges: Brockenhurst College and Bournemouth & Poole College including financial management, payroll, human resources, examinations, student records and data returns processing and IT Software development. The Payroll Admin Assist role, sits in Payroll as part of the wider HR team, and provides comprehensive administrative support to WESS and both Colleges.

Job Description

The Role

As the Payroll Admin Assistant you will play an active role in working alongside the Payroll Administrators to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions relating to all aspects of the Payroll function.  This includes data entry, document management, processing verification and customer support,   It’s a busy role so we need someone who is well organised and able to get things get done.  The role works closely with the HR Services Team. 

The role is varied and includes:

  • receiving and responding to customer queries
  • maintaining accurate records
  • processing expense and additional hours claims forms within required deadlines
  • updating and maintaining records within the HR/Payroll Database
  • documenting actions by completing logs and updating records
  • ensuring accurate paper and electronic document management
  • supporting the development of payroll processes 
  • supporting the monthly payroll process

 Key skills and attitudes

  • Able to maintain and build strong working relationships
  • Have strong administration skills, with an eye for detail and be able to work to a high level of accuracy
  • Have the ability to work independently providing customer service excellence
  • Possess good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Experience of using a computerised HR/Payroll System would be an advantage - or willingness to learn.  
  • Able to use Excel, Word and Outlook, preferably to an intermediate standard
  • Have a desire to develop and improve processes
  • Ideally have proven experience in administrative work in a payroll environment.
  • Have the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Be a team player
  • Have good problem solving skills
