About Us

Wessex Education Shared Services (WESS) are a pioneering shared service company operating in a Further Education environment. We provide a wide range of services to our two Member colleges: Brockenhurst College and Bournemouth & Poole College. We are an integrated support services team responsible for the entire administration of student enquiry through to enrolment and completion

 

The Role

As a Systems and Reporting Developer you will be responsible for the development of a range of SQL reports for users of all levels of college systems including HR and payroll. You will also be responsible for the maintenance of these as well as all documentation relating to queries and applications developed by WESS. Reporting to the Projects and Compliance Manager, you will work closely with them to develop and maintain a data warehouse platform covering all aspects of the data that is managed by WESS and the joining colleges. You will also work closely with other members of the development team ensuring deadlines are met in a professional and timely manner. As the Systems and Reporting Developer, you will report using Microsoft SSRS tools and SQL server database management.

 

Other duties will include:

 

  • Communicating efficiently with users to assist them with the reports developed by the team
  • Develop business intelligence tools for visualisations and analysis of the data warehouse
  • Resolve both internal and external customer queries and logging these requests onto the call management system
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as required when necessary

 

Key responsibilities, skills and attitudes

  • Intermediate MS Excel and Access skills
  • Basic T-SQL knowledge (preferable MS-SQL)
  • Ability to work under own initiative

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Logical approach
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a timely manner
  • Ability to adhere to time scales and set deadlines
  • Qualified in Maths and English (level 2 or above)
  • Qualified in level 3 IT or hold relevant experience
  • Experience working in an auditable environment (desirable)
  • Operation experience in the Further education sector (desirable)
  • Knowledge of funding methodologies (desirable)
